Impulse buy at the maritime museum Het Scheepvaart in Amsterdam Pretty good book that lives up to its title although I felt some stories included were a bit farfetched and only tangentially related to ships' cats This was something I noticed towards the end as if the author were perhaps a little short on material and another small criticism I have is that the stories should have been sorted chronologically It was a bit jarring to go from the 1990s and back two centuries to the 1700s Otherwise a perfectly fine and fun book that cat lovers will enjoy without too much of a time investment I 'technically' finished this in two weeks but in reality I did it in a matter of hours just spread out over the Netherlands and Malaysia when I was actually reading

I loved this book My grandma lent it me after reading it herself and knew I would love it The stories were so lovely though some were sad and one was just horrific I never really knew how much cats were valued aboard ships before I would love it if there was another boom with a similar theme from this lady and would jump at the chance to read it

This is a comprehensive survey of seagoing cats from ancient times to the present Heartwarming stories reveal why cats have always been popular as companions on board ship
