Not as good as Among the Monarchs There's a similar one note tone to these poems which was very effective w Monarchs but the end result was a flat reading experience which really left me feeling disappointed Maybe at the time I was reading The Piercing I wasn't in the right frame of mind woúldn't be the first time especially when it comes to poetry I like Garren's voice and hope that was the case

A poetry writing friend shared this book with me and I'm so glad It's the perfect ruminative collection for a cold sunny November afternoon My favorite poems were Polaroid The Apple Tree Tell The Rest and Summer Lesson the latter of which reminded me of teaching summer school These are reflective yet accessible poems with attention to the nuances of language and life Kudos
