The book I read to research this post was Web Marketing For Dummies 2nd edition which is a very good book which I read at book looks at the various ways you can promote your business and business website and seems aimed at smaller companies One thing you have to work out in business is first the demographics of your typical customers so you know how to tailor your advertising and then how much does the average customer spend both each time they buy and over their lifetime This is important because one of the ways you can grow your company is through pay per click ads and these have different search terms auctioned off to the highest bidder usually There is Google Adsense and Adwords but also other companies who might not provide as much business but are often cheaperYou should also look at your website and if you are starting out and getting a website built don't underestimate the cost and the variety of professionals you will probably have to hire to get it built Consider this the average person spends 4 seconds before he decides whether or not he is staying on that site or not You have to make sure your website catches his attention in just that 4 seconds This is called landing page optimization Another idea is looking at award winning websites to see what they do right and then copying them Two websites that feature these kinds of sites are You can also promote your site often for free Two sites that offer this and have free options are You might also try promoting on social media and one of the minor sites mentioned is also there is a social networks directory at In promoting your business you need to be creative and minimize spending or at least don't spend what you can't afford Reuest testimonials from customers and have Facebook and Twitter like buttons on your website You should have a blog separate to your website and can usually get a free one which you can link to your website Reuest satisfied customer's email addresses and send out a newsletter and don't forget by law there must be an opt out option on the email newsletter for people to unsubscribe I am sure you can see this is a really good book and I have only covered a tiny fraction of what is in it

Now we're talking a 'For Dummies' book that actually delivers an excellent overview of the subject that it promises to cover If you've been a SocialBookshelvescom reader for a while you've probably noticed that I get through uite a lot of For Dummies books and most of the time they're either too simple or they attempt to cover a subject so broad that it's impossible to fit it all inWeb Marketing for Dummies risked fitting in to the latter but it gets around the problem of ever evolving information and an impossibly large subject area by coming complete with an online reference library which expands upon many areas in the book It makes sense too after all at its heart this is a book that's all about providing value to your customers through your websiteIn fact I'd argue that this is the only For Dummies book that I really needed to read it covers web design testing and analytics at various levels each of which are disciplines that are worthy of an entire book on their own merit By the time that you're half way through this admittedly hefty collection of advice and information you'll know everything there is to know about setting up a killer website and optimising it for search and success Oh apart from how to code the damn thing in the first placeBut getting the site up and running is only half the battle and without a steady stream of visitors there's no way that you'll start to notch up page views conversions and eventually sales That's where the second half of the book comes in packed with tidbits of information to help you get started on a social media campaign or to launch PPC adverts on search engines and social sites There are even tips to help you make the most of your existing marketing collateral although it's basic stuff about putting your URL on business cards e mail signatures posters and promotions Turns out that half of the time marketing is all about common senseBut it's the case studies that make Web Marketing for Dummies such an enlightening read we all need a little inspiration and what better way to learn than from the companies wh0've figured it out the hard way? If you're new to online marketing read this book

Web Marketing for Dummies by Jan Zimmerman is a book for people to refer to for help with online marketing campaigns It covers start up and basics as well as techniues to use in order to draw in online traffic I used this book as a reference for a career that I was in and found it helpful Although online marketing is a little complex than it is described in the book I still found the book to be helpful and it did provide other sites for me to research that led to a thorough and varied collection of information that I was able to put in to use I would recommend this book to people who are new to online marketing as well as those looking for new ideas for online marketing campaigns

As a newcomer its always nice to open a book for dummies Its always an interesting read My only disapointment regarding this one would be that it's much directed towards people opening an online portal for their shop Because of that an important part of this book was disapointing because almost of topic The book answers uestion about the difference between your everyday shop and an online shop These can be interesting but in the end made the book a lot less interesting

Dummies books have always been a great way to learn something uickly This book is excellent for those trying to start a web based business Although the industry changes so rapidly this book does provide a great foundation It however does make it seem that web marketing is a very easy thing to do which it is not

I wanted to be able to relate this to libraries but it was mostly focused on the actual mechanics of selling which is already being taken care of with our current catalog Definitely a good resource for businesses starting from the ground up

Pretty good overview of web marketing and even current enough to touch on social media marketing I would make this your first read in this area as it is a very topical overview of the field without going in to much detail
